Mt. Tamalpais (pronounced Tam (like Pam) - al (like null) - pa (like pie) - is (like us) rises out of the ground to a peak of 2,571 feet as Mill Valley ends and shields it from the ocean. It seems so remote that it is difficult to imagine downtown San Francisco is just a few miles away.

We've packed a picnic of smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches, marinated mushrooms, and chocolate covered strawberries!  As if that weren't treat enough!

We start our trip at the Pantoll Ranger Station at the Park Headquarters to pick up trail maps and other information.

Our choices seem unlimited.  A slow leisurely walk on paved roads?
A full day meandering through the Redwoods? A hearty workout UPHILL?  A guided tour?   It's all here.

With hundreds of trails to choose from, a day of hiking, horseback riding, biking or even a drive promises panoramas of creeks and Redwoods magnificent mixtures of ocean, beaches, lakes, woods and city views, it's an experience our senses won't forget.

We opt for a hike. The scenery will go by slower this way. But first...let's see what's out there.

Back on the road...
